CLC Information

The Community Leadership Council (CLC) is a program of the United Way of Coastal Georgia that was started to develop and enhance leadership skills and increase diverse volunteer participation in local nonprofit agencies. The program aims to identify, recruit, and place diverse leaders into nonprofit board and leadership positions throughout Coastal Georgia.

United Way’s CLC is an 8-session training program offered in consecutive weeks in the spring each year.  Sessions will be held in person in Brunswick, GA on Thursday mornings from 8:30-10:30am. Program sessions include a personality assessment review, board member responsibilities, fundraising, strategic planning, and financial and legal decision making, among other topics. Following the 8-week program, participants will serve a 1-year internship on the board of a local nonprofit of their choice. As part of the internship, the participant will be a full, non-voting member of the board and serve on at least one committee or assist on a special project.

Applications for CLC are solicited community-wide. The selection committee reviews all applications and selects approximately 10-15 individuals per class. The selection criteria are designed to recruit a group of demonstrated leaders who are diverse in their ethnicity, profession, and community service. Past participants have included college students, young professionals, seasoned professionals, and retirees!

After selection, participants will sign a Letter of Agreement outlining the requirements for successful completion of the CLC program and submit a non-refundable commitment fee of $200. The fee can be paid by the individual or their employer.
